My story begins in the Northside of Fort Worth, where familia, faith, hard work, and community were part of everyday life. My siblings and I were raised by a single mother who worked two jobs to put food on the table, with the steady, loving hand of our abuelita helping raise us. My mother worked in a union-represented job. Growing up in a union household taught me to respect working families and the dignity of work.
My mother tells me that people were always knocking on my grandmother’s door. Some needed legal documents translated; others needed advice, a little money, or someone to listen. My abuelita opened that door and helped, even if it meant giving her last penny or the shirt off her back. My first lesson in service came from watching her show up for others.
The Northside That Raised Me
I remember going with my mom to Franko’s Market when she cashed her checks, doing school projects at the Northside Library, and looking forward to Marine Park Pool afterward. On Sundays, my family attended Mass at All Saints Catholic Church, where Father Stephen Jasso was the priest at the time. Then my abuelita would take me to Esperanza’s for pan dulce. These everyday moments remain some of my most treasured memories.
Our roots stretch across the neighborhood: one great-uncle worked at the Jimenez Tortilla Factory, another owned a body shop on Azle Avenue, and my abuelita worked at the Department of Public Safety office on Jacksboro Highway. I come from a family of small-business owners and entrepreneurs. The Northside is where my family worked, worshipped, built businesses, and cared for neighbors.
From Community Support to Community Service
I attended North Side High School. My family volunteered with Northside Inter-Community Agency (NICA), and I later worked there mentoring students while I was in high school. Returning as a board member years later brought that journey full circle.
After high school, I earned an Associate of Arts in Business from Tarrant County College and continued my studies in political science at Texas Christian University. I am also an entrepreneur through Esperanza Property Management, a business rooted in the community that raised me.
Carrying Their Legacy Forward
My mother’s determination and my grandmother’s generosity continue to guide me. They taught me that service is not a title or position. It is opening the door, listening, and offering what you can. Through neighborhood involvement, nonprofit leadership, and community work, I try to carry those lessons forward with faith, humility, and purpose.
Wherever life takes me, the Northside will always be home. Mi lado norte es tu lado norte.

The neighborhood that made me who I am.
My story belongs to more than one person. It belongs to my mother, my siblings, my abuelita, and the neighbors and small businesses that made the Northside feel like family.
Family — A single mother, a union household, and a grandmother whose door was always open.
